PYP Crane Club has been stringing paper cranes toghether over the last few months. Those cranes are folded by students at HIS and the Crane Club decided to take them to the Peace Park. It was not a very exciting job (rather boring...), but there were always smiles and laughter in the room. And...

On Friday 27th April Grade 1&2 shared their measurement investigations with the PYP students during the assembly held in their classroom. They were very excited to share their learning and put both the students and parents to the test! They worked in groups to develop their own questions to challenge the students from all the other classes. They included investigations based on length, weight and time.
Take a look at the snapshots of their assembly below. Students sharing their knowledge of how measurement is connected to their current unit of inquiry on the earth`s natural cycles and how we are influenced by them. The eager PYP students finding out they have some investigations to participate in! The Grade 1&2 students leading the investigation and showing great confidence and leadership skills in the process. Thank you to the parents who also attended; your participation was valuable and exciting for the students too! At the end of the assembly, students were asked to reflect on the learner profile attributes and attitudes they felt they were able to demonstrate during their set task. Many students felt they were able to contribute to their teams as good communicators and show cooperation skills. Well done to the Grade 1&2 class! CB 2013/04/26
In Crane club, we were discussing our next club activity, since we finished the glee club guiding. And one of us said, "What if we ask people if they have something they want us to do? That we can do for our next Crane club activity?" Therefore, we chose to make an idea box in which people can put in some ideas of activities they want us to do. It is placed in the Genkan, so please feel free to give us ideas about what you want us to do. We are inviting new club members too, so please have a look. Vivica G8 2013/04/24
Hi everyone, Even though the cherry blossoms may have gone outside, our special Library Sakura Tree is in full bloom! During Reading Week, Primary students stuck their photo flower next to their favourite book. The flowers keep popping up in new places as students find their new favourite book! We also have lots of reviews of Sakura books up there, too. If you love a Sakura book, take a review sheet from the Library and add another flower to our tree! Students have been reading the Sakura books since January, and now with all stamp sheets handed in, it's time to vote your favourite! But please hurry; voting ends tomorrow! Once votes have been counted, the results will be announced after Golden Week. This year, we will have our own HIS winners, as well as the overall winners across Japan.
For more information about the Sakura Medal and the books, please visit the website at www.sakuramedal.com.
Books for next years medal are being considered now, and will be decided in May. Next year we can look forward to even more fun with special Sakura events, like the Sakura Medal Book Bowl, and an Art Competition!
But you don't have to stop reading the Sakura books after the voting has ended... Picture Books will be available for check-out after Golden Week!
Have a great holiday!
