Dear all,

The ceremony at the Peace Memorial Park, on August 6th 2010, marked the 65th anniversary of the A-Bomb being dropped on Hiroshima. Many attended this as well as those who watched on television.

Two students accompanied me on Monday to the Peace park for the last time this academic year. They were able to hang 4 boxes of cranes out of the 6, at Sadako’s Statue, which we have been sent from schools around the world in the last few weeks.

1000 Crane Club within the Community

Kabe Terayama International ‘Fire-Fly’ Festival – Sunday 13th June 2010
Some of the members of the committee mentioned above served within World War II. Annually, they bring together many adults and children of all ages to reflect on how Peace can bridge our lives and prevent further war.

Our school was invited to this event along with two other Japanese schools.

Peace at HIS

I would like to say a huge thank you to the former students of Grade 5 who, in May 2008, designed a Peace Garden within the school grounds as part of their PYP Exhibition. The garden was completed in March 2009. Please come and visit the garden and have a read of the lovely messages the students wrote on tiles which surround the peace pole. I am sure their former teacher, Ms Watson, would be as proud as I am of their sheer hard work. The students are now in Grade 7.

The Petition for Peace - 1000 Crane Club

Yesterday after school, four students from Grade 4&5 went to the Peace Park to deliver the beautiful cranes which have been sent to us over the last 3 months. Here are some photos the team took. We shared/read the lovely letters and prayers which were also included within the boxes. Please keep folding cranes and sending these to us. Thank you to all who are participating within this petition for Peace.

Secondary Deliver Cranes

Yesterday, students from Grade 6 & 7 took the latest boxes of cranes we have received to the peace park. The countries represented include, Australia, Taiwan and the USA. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the people involved in folding these cranes and continuing the petition for peace. Your cranes looked amazing.

The Thousand Crane Club

The Thousand Crane Club has begun again this year. There are 14 members of the club within Grade 4 - 8 and they will be responsible for; taking the many boxes of cranes we receive to the Peace Park monthly, sending certificates to participting schools and organisations, learning about Peace globally and locally, re-creating the story of Sadako in a variety of languages, becoming penpals of students worldwide, folding cranes and many more.

On September 28th, four students from Grade 4&5 went to the Peace Park to place the cranes within the booths from the following schools, see pictures below. We would like to say thank you to all the schools for participating in the petition for peace.

The next trip to the park will be in October and will involve students from Grade 6-8.
