Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

Next week, we have the Middle Years Program (MYP) Authorization Team coming to HIS for the authorization visit, for a final assessment of our MYP, which runs from Grade 6 to Grade 10.  Thank you to the parents who are coming in for a meeting with the team on Tuesday. We still need a few MYP parents. Please see the notice below.

As we approach the end of the year, we get ready for Festive Eve which is happening at HIS next Saturday – a big day for HIS. Please find some information below. Many thanks to all of the parents who have been sewing all week in school getting some great costumes ready. Takako sensei has been working with the students on what is sounding like a great show. See you there.

Enjoy your weekend.

Kind regards

Damian Rentoule (Principal)

MYP parents panel – 4 December at 11:50

We are looking for a few more participants for the parents’ panel that will take place during our MYP verification visit. The meeting will be conducted in English, but translation will be available if needed. No staff from HIS will be in attendance. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 4 December between 11:50 and 12:30. Some parents participated in a similar panel last year when we had our consultation visit and this meeting should be very similar. Please contact Annie Levasseur (MYP coordinator) at alevasseur@hiroshima-is.ac.jp if you are able to join.

Reading Carousel

On Wednesday, December 12th, we are organizing a Winter Celebrations/Holidays theme for a Reading Carousel that will take place from 2:20 to 3:20. We are recruiting parents who might be able to share an hour of their time to read stories to small groups of children in a variety of spaces at school. You can bring your own special book, in any language, or we can help provide you with ones from our library. Each session will be around 15 minutes, so you will read the same stories three times to three different groups of children. Teachers will be there to support the activity. In order to have a successful experience, we hope to have as many volunteers as possible. This is a great opportunity to join in with us at your child’s school for an afternoon. We will request that you arrive at the school at 2:00 PM on December 12 so that we can finalize the logistics of where you will be helping. Please email Matt Jungblut directly by December 5th, at mjungblut@hiroshima-is.ac.jp , if you would like to participate or have any questions.
