Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

I hope you are all enjoying this surprisingly mild January weather. As we move into our second semester we get ready for a number of significant culminating events in our IB programs. In the Primary Years Program (PYP), Grade 5 students undertake the PYP Exhibition which is a substantive group-based inquiry that is presented to the HIS community at the end of the year. In the Middle Years Program (MYP), the Grade 10 students undertake an individual inquiry known as the Personal Project which they also present to the HIS community later in the year. In the Diploma Program (DP), Grade 12 students complete a range of their assessments, culminating in their exams in May. These are all really important steps along the way as students build their inquiry skills and develop as independent learners. We will let you know when the PYP Exhibition and the MYP Personal Project events are on and I would encourage you all to come along and take a look.

For this week’s TED Talk, I like the idea behind this one. In the MYP and DP, we always study books in translation for just the reasons Ann Morgan mentions in her talk. I like the idea of a reading goal.

Perhaps, reading a book in translation from countries we are visiting. That would be fun with the family. Something to consider?
Enjoy the weekend.
Kind regards
Damian Rentoule (Principal)

HIS Festival Question (Coming soon)

A survey will be distributed shortly to see how everyone is feeling about hosting the HIS International Festival this year. As the organization of the Festival takes a great deal of time and energy, one possibility is to have a break this year and hold it next year. As HIS parents organize and run the event, the PTA would like to gather everyone’s ideas. A survey is being prepared that will be distributed in paper form and also online. I will send the link and the form via email.  Thank you.

HIS Parker Order (Coming soon)

Also, we are nearly ready with our HIS parker (Hoodie) order from. They look great and we are very excited about this. The order form will be ready soon.
