Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

We have had a busy week at HIS with our IB examination period starting. Our Grade 12 students are sitting their final exams and I would like to thank all of our students for being so considerate when moving in the corridors during the examination periods, keeping the noise to a minimum. The final exam for our students is scheduled for Thursday 23 May. It is a very important, exciting and nerve-wracking time for our Grade 12 students and we wish them well. Also, next Saturday is our Arts Gala with the Spring Concert and Visual Arts exhibition at HIS so we are looking forward to seeing you there.

For out TED Talk this week, I was inspired by our Diploma Program Global Politics students who had been looking at structural violence and its relation to peace, which also happened to be one of the questions that came up on their exam earlier in the week. Structural violence refers to some form of social structure or institution that may harm people. Racial discrimination is a form of structural violence and this talk provides a really thought-provoking perspective on the concept of race provided by a photographer who had a great idea for action. Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

Damian Rentoule (Principal)

International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) Testing Results

We have received the results of the International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) and will send your child’s individual report home in the near future. We wanted to speak with the students first about the reports and what they mean. We will be using some of the points in the following presentation, with grade level appropriate explanations. Please click this link to see a short explanation of the individual report you will be receiving: Understanding Individual Results.pptx
