PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear HIS Community

A usual, everyone had fun today all dressed up for Halloween. You can see some images on the Crane Video. I would like to recognize Kumi (a PYP parent) for all of the work supporting the Halloween event. Kumi organized a large group of parents who have been coming to school regularly.

This all started a while ago now with the decorations going up and it is a great case of leading by example. We also have the Bonfire Night next Friday and Yumiko (an MYP parent) who has been working with Jackie (a DP parent) on the organization of that fun event. I have also seen Jackie, Marina (a PYP & MYP parent) and Eriko (a PYP, MYP & DP parent) working on costumes for the upcoming Festive Eve. Thank you to all of the other parents, as well, who have also been supporting these really important school events. We appreciate your help.

On November 19, at 9:00 am we will have a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting to look at upcoming events. This was rescheduled as next week is busy with the cooking for Bonfire Night. If you are unable to come to the PTA meeting, we will have a table on Bonfire Night where you can either suggest possible activities or sign up to support one of the existing ones. This year, we will also have teachers connected to each of the events to work together with the parents. We are hoping to create a system where the PTA work is fun rather than stressful. I think we probably all have enough stress in our lives. We want the support that parents and teachers provide through the PTA to be enjoyable for all.

Speaking of stress, I thought that you may like this video, and it could be a great conversation with your children, no matter how old they are. The idea is that how you think about stress matters. This talk is one of the most viewed TED Talks at over 21 million views so it seems that there is more than a little interest in stress in our modern society. This may be a good one to watch with your child. You will see what I mean.

Kind regards

Damian Rentoule

NO BENTO ON MONDAY

As it is a public holiday on Monday, there is not bento delivery so please bring your own lunch. This is easy to forget.

PARENT/TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) MEETING

We have moved the PTA meeting to Tuesday 19 November at 9:00 am as next week will be busy with Bonfire Night preparations. Hope to see you there on the 19th.

In the meeting will be looking at the activities that we want to run over the rest of the year and see who would like to be involved in what. This year, teachers will also be supporting each event. On Bonfire Night, we will have a brainstorming station to collect ideas and to indicate interest so if you are unable to make it to the meeting, you can make your suggestions or sign up for an existing event at the booth next Friday on Bonfire Night.

BONFIRE NIGHT

We have our Bonfire Night on Friday evening next week. The event runs from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. For those of you who have not seen it, the evening is organized around two main concepts. Fire & Food. A great combination.

For volunteers, a small army of cooks/chefs we will be cooking in the kitchen from Wednesday morning so if you would like to be involved, please bring, apron, knife, chopping board (if you have them) and smiles and be ready to chop for your lives!

NEW BUILDING PROJECT – COMMUNITY IDEAS MEETINGS

As we move ahead with the new building project, we need to confirm the final design by the end of November so we have to make sure that we have all the details finalized.

Next week after school on Monday we will have a Community Ideas Meeting for anyone interested – teachers/parents/students/other interested parties. We can look at the initial plans together and brainstorm any suggestions or questions. Feel free to just drop by.

We will run three sessions during November:

  • Monday 4th November 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
  • Tuesday 19th November 10:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Monday 25th November 3:30 pm – 4:30pm
