Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

We are all settling into our new routines now at the end of our second week. Our routines, such as a regular time to sit and read at home, or stand and read, are important to help us reach a goal such as improve our reading. We all know that the more we read, the better we get at reading, as well as a host of other related skills. We also know what we need to do in order to accomplish this – read and read. Sometimes, though, it just doesn’t work out. We just don’t manage to do what we need to do. This is as true for our children as it is for us adults. Self-management is one of our Approaches to Learning skills that we focus on through all three of our IB programs so the idea of managing our behaviours in order to accomplish a goal is very important.

Executive function is a term that you may have come across. It is really interesting in that it relates to monitoring ourselves; selecting and monitoring behaviours that help us reach goals.  This TED Talk is a very interesting look at the importance of context – the impact of what is happening around us to help us better monitor ourselves to help reach our goals.

Enjoy the weekend.

Regards

Damian Rentoule

It will be supervised by some of our secondary students as a fundraiser for the HIS Volleyball Team. Parents are asked to make a one-coin donation at the door. Thank you.

Please sign up for childminding at this link.

(Secondary students can remain in the 1st Floor Secondary library space.)
