Principal’s Message
Dear HIS Community
I hope you have all been enjoying the week. There is a message about the ‘My Mommy is Beautiful’ art installation in the body of this message below. I would like to invite you all to come in and see the second part of the installation, which is a series of messages from the Student Art Project team (Erin, Fidel, Hinano, Itsuki, & SuA) describing the process which is always an important part of any artistic endeavour. In the Crane video today, you can also see a few of our visual arts students talking about the process that they are going through on a project related to a self-portrait, but not one necessarily restricted to their physical selves. There were some great ideas.
Also, thank you once again to our parents who came to school to read for our Primary students. Everyone loves a good story!
Also, if you are near the Old Hiroshima Bank Building over the weekend, please drop by to visit the display by our Crane Club at the Peace Event as posted in the Crane on 12th November.
For our TED Talk this week, I thought I would place our focus beyond school and even beyond the university experience to these interesting ideas of employment and careers. I wonder how many of us can relate to this talk? I hope you all enjoy the weekend.

My Mommy is Beautiful
Today the ‘My Mommy is Beautiful’ artwork by Yoko Ono was uninstalled. This installation artwork has been a wonderful experience for HIS and I would like to thank both the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art and the Student Art Project Team (Erin, Fidel, Hinano, Itsuki, & SuA) who made this possible. You have seen it in the genkan and this is just a reminder of what it was all about. The message was translated by the student Art Project Team and has helped our community contribute their messages.
| オノ・ヨーコ《マイ・マミー・イズ・ビューティフル》オノ・ヨーコ（1933〜）による《マイ・マミー・イズ・ビューティフル》は、観客が自分の母親への思いを直接壁に書いたり、紙に書いてはったりする参加型の作品です。オノは観客の言葉を集める参加型作品や、言葉によって人びとの想像力を引き出す作品を制作してきました。フェミニズム運動や平和運動などの社会運動にも取り組むオノは、ひとりひとりの言葉や想像力が世界を変える力になると考えているのでしょう。ここに集まる母親たちへの言葉は、それぞれちがった母親のすがたと、さまざまな家族のかたちがあることを思い起こさせるはずです。みなさんも母親への思いやメッセージなど自由に紙に書いてはってみてください。 |
| Yoko Ono, My Mommy is BeautifulMy Mommy is Beautiful is an instructional artwork by Yoko Ono (1933-). The artwork invites the audience to write messages for their mothers on the board directly, or write them on a post-it note and paste it on the wall. Yoko Ono has been proactively making artworks that could collect words or ideas from her audience, that would trigger further imaginations to the audience. Being an active member of the feminist movement as well as the peace movement, Yoko Ono strongly believes that the words and imaginations that each of us has could actually change the world. The words and messages that are collected here will remind us of our mothers and help us understand that there are a variety of family forms in the world. Please feel free to add your words and messages for your mothers. |

| Yoko Ono, My Mommy is Beautiful«Ma maman est belle» est une œuvre participative de Yoko Ono (1933-). L’œuvre invite le public à écrire des messages à leurs mères directement sur la planche ou sur un post-it et à les coller au mur. Elle continue proactivement à créer des œuvres qui rassemblent des mots ou des idées du public, donnant un point de début pour déclencher nos imaginations. Étant une membre active du mouvement féministe et pacifiste, Yoko Ono croit fermement en le pouvoir qu’ont nos mots et nos idées de changer le monde. Les mots et les messages recueillis ici vont nous rappeler de nos mères et vont nous aider à comprendre la diversité des formes familiales. N’hésitez pas à ajouter vos mots et messages pour vos mères. |
Festive Eve Update
Next Friday is Festive Eve. Earlier in the year, due to the Covid pandemic, we decided that we would run Festive Eve without a live audience and live-stream the performance. Due to the ongoing low numbers of Covid infections at the moment, we have decided to invite a limited audience of family members of the cast and crew. The production will still be live-streamed for the whole school community and the Sonoda family are kindly preparing a professional recording of the performance which will be available to everyone later. For cast and crew families, we are currently confirming numbers and we will let you know details of ticket availability early next week. Once again, many thanks to all of the people who have been supporting our students in order to make this a great experience.

In the week before winter vacation, it’s time for “Santa’s Visit” where Santa Claus distributes sweets to the children. The candy bagging work will be done from 9 am on Tuesday, December 14th. We would be grateful if you could help us. Thank you.
We use sweets donated for Halloween every year for Christmas, but this year we don’t have enough left over. If you missed the opportunity to donate during Halloween, or if you have a generous heart and would like to give some more, we are looking forward to your donation. For allergic reasons, please prepare nut-free products. For your reference, sweets are distributed to all students and teachers from EC to 12th grade on both Halloween and Christmas (to avoid any sad faces). Please bring your sweets to the office by Friday, December 10th. Thank you!
冬休み前の週にSanta Visitとしてサンタクロースが子供たちにお菓子を配ります。そのお菓子の袋詰め作業を12月14日(火) 午前9時から行います。お手伝いいだけますと助かります。よろしくお願いいたします。
また、毎年、ハロウィンにご寄付いただくお菓子をクリスマス用にも使用していますが、今年は量が不足しています。ハロウィンの時に寄付の機会を逃してしまったという方、また、もっと寄付してもいいよ、と思ってくださる寛大なお心をお持ちの皆さま、ぜひ、ご寄付をお待ちいたしております。アレルギー上の理由からナッツを含まないものをご用意いただきますよう、お願い申し上げます。ご参考までに、お菓子はハロウィンもクリスマスも、ECさんから12年生までの全校生徒の皆さんと先生方にお配りしております。お菓子は12月10日 (金)までにオフィスまでお持ちください。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
