Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

Although this may feel like a long way away for you if you have younger children, university and other interesting option await our HIS graduates and we are very proud of our Class of 2020 who graduated last weekend. Students in the Class of 2020 have received offers from a range of leading universities so congratulation to you all.  Your hard work and perseverance over the years have opened up many exciting doors for you. It is an impressive list and those universities would all be fortunate to be able to count you as part of their student bodies. We wish you well as you move into the world!

Kind regards

Damian Rentoule

New Building Project Tour

The construction project replacing the Annex is scheduled for completion in May of 2021 and Hebel Haus have presented us with a virtual tour of the new building based on the final design. Obviously, we are really looking forward to moving in next year.

We have a model of the building along with the plans in the genkan if you would like to have a look. One thing you may notice in the plans is that we have a space allocated for a lift which would increase access to the second floor. The lift will not be installed initially, but the design specifications have all been included (just to the right-hand side of the stairs) so that installation will be straight forward when we are ready to move ahead and add the lift to support inclusive access.

We will also be running a campaign to raise funds to support the new building project over the next 10 months including a plaque in the entrance to recognize all of our donors. I would like to thank Matt Jungblut (HIS Parent and member of the Board of Trustees) who will be leading the find raising project. More information will be sent out to members of the community soon.

Parent volunteers to provide feedback on our self-study

We are in the final stages of our self-study (Council of International Schools & IB PYP/MYP/DP) so this has been a big job lasting all year. We would like to ask for parent volunteers to help us by having a look at some of the documents and providing feedback from a parent perspective. Don’t worry, it is a relatively informal process. Just email me if you are interested drentoule@hiroshima-is.ac.jp and I will assign a section for you to look at (or everything if you are really interested) and I will send through the documents for you to read and you can comment if you like. Thank you.
