The Crane, 10 September 2022

Thank you to all parents that attended our Parent Information Evening. It was very nice to see so many people in attendance. As well, thank you to our fine teachers for their preparations.

We were able to welcome back our Grade 10 class this week, which was great news. It was fabulous to see everyone back in person.

On Sunday evening this past week, I was able to attend the Let’s Pray for Ukraine concert featuring Jundai and Eishin. It was excellent. Congratulations to these students for showing such initiative.

I also encourage all Secondary students to participate in the Polo Shirt Design Contest as referenced below. This is our 60th Anniversary at HIS, and your contributions would be much appreciated and are genuinely encouraged!

Polo Shirt Design for Secondary Students

The deadline for the polo shirt design competition supported by the HIS PTA is now September 19th. If you have any draft designs, please do submit your design to the office or a digital version to the PTA (pta@hiroshima-is.ac.jp).

You can even choose to create a design with more than one person! Be creative and harness your creative energies!

Ms K and Mr Steward (on behalf of the PTA)

The best place to learn is in person!

HIS, like so many other schools and institutions, has encountered a recent increase in COVID cases. Thankfully, this appears to be on the decline, once again.

Despite the associated challenges, and the temporary closure of one class, we remained open throughout. This is something we will always strive to do, if possible.

It is important to remind the community that HIS is not an online school. When practical and possible, we will do our best to engage students if they cannot be present at school. However, this may not always be practical or possible. This will be dependent on numerous factors and variables. If ever in question, please contact teachers directly, or me, the Principal, of course.

With regard to attendance, as stated, the best place to learn is at HIS, in person. There may be reasons why students cannot attend in person. These should be conveyed to the teachers, HIS Office, and Mr Steward. This greater understanding will help us better support each different circumstance. It will also help us understand how to best categorize each attendance record. Attending certain classes online is not considered equivalent to attending classes in person. Whatever we can offer as far as online support, while effective, is not designed to replace the real HIS experience; nor does it count as officially attending classes, unless approved by HIS.

I remind everyone, once again, that:

The best place to learn is in person at HIS!

Morning Traffic Update

Thank you to all HIS community members for driving so carefully when approaching the school for drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students and community members is imperative. This can only happen when we drive respectfully and responsibly. Thank you for your fine efforts. This process is going well.

Also, please be considerate of those people living near the school. Please avoid parking for long periods of time in places that will obstruct normal traffic flow. This is very important in maintaining positive relations within the local neighbourhood.

New plan for this year 今年度の新プラン

We would like to tell you about the new plans under consideration for this year, which were mentioned at the Parents Information Evening on Friday.

金曜日のPIEでお話させていただいた検討中の今年度の新プランについてお伝えさせていただきます。

  • We are discussing changing the name “PTA” due to the negative image that this sometimes has, especially in Japan.
  • Snack Club (TBC). Once a month, make snacks with the children at lunchtime and sell them with the children at the next day’s recess time.
  • Parents’ choir club activity: We gather once a week and practice happily. There may be some performance opportunities as well!

We will do our best to support HIS children and their parents so everyone can enjoy HIS life.
HISの子供たち、そして保護者が楽しくHIS生活を送れるよう、全力でサポートします。

今週のお知らせは以上です。良い週末をお過ごしくださいね。
That’s all from us this week. Have a lovely weekend!
