The Crane, 4 February 2024

Welcome from James Steward

Setsubun is upon us. Students enjoyed a party-like atmosphere on Friday afternoon with Yumi sensei leading the festivities. The devils have been eradicated and good fortune is ahead! I hope that everyone was able to enjoy their favourite ‘good luck’ sushi rolls over the weekend.

Our Japanese Assembly was excellent mid-week. The proud Grade 5 presenters did a wonderful job with their book trailers.

The Peace Riders were out in force on Thursday! Mr Barker was at his best changing tires in the brisk and windy weather.

We are looking forward to our PTA Wolfpack Hot Lunch on Monday. It’s curry, my favourite! It looks like another cold week ahead, so the curry will go down well! Thank you, as well, for running the PTA Shop this past week. The snacks were scrumptious.

Thank you, as always to our wonderful Teaching Assistants, Shinobu, Ryoko, Sweta and Mica. Yoshimi sensei has recently joined us in supporting Primary Japanese in G1-2 and G3-4.

Please check your email and Toddle for Semester 1 Report Cards.

From the PTA Wolfpack

Welcome to all the new students and families that recently started at HIS! The Wolfpack uses the HIS Parents LINE group to share reminders, urgent notices, and exchange information with everyone. Please use the QR code below to join the group and welcome to the HIS family!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Wolfpack General Meeting. If you were not able to come, a quick recap of the meeting. First, we discussed the Wolfpack budget. We started the year off with 1,365,541¥. So far, we have made 482,259¥. All funds raised by the Wolfpack are used to support students, so far this year we have purchased two large rice cookers, the TV in the genkan area, and spotlights & mic stands that are used for school productions. Our current balance is 1,214,929¥.

The rest of the meeting was focused on the HIS International Festival that will be on April 13th. The Festival is a large event and we need help making it a great event that highlights how great HIS is and shares the many cultures we have at HIS. The descriptions of the different areas we need help with are below. We are in the planning stages and will be working to finalise plans. Please take a look and let us know where you would like to help out.

REMINDER: Hot lunch will be on Monday, Feb. 5. Don’t pack a lunch if you ordered!

PYP Valentine Treat Bag orders are due Wednesday, Feb. 7. We will deliver them to the students on Feb. 13 so they can hand them out to friends on Valentine’s Day. Secondary students can purchase treat bags at our Wolfpack shop on Feb. 13 & 14th.
