The Crane, 14 April 2024

Welcome from James Steward

The sun was beaming down on HIS yesterday at our International Festival. With sunny skies and warm temperatures, the mood was expectant for a great party, and this is exactly how the day unfolded.

We had an incredible turnout for the event with present families and new friends from across Hiroshima coming to check out what life was like at HIS!

The day was full of excellent entertainment and events including musical acts, jujitsu, fencing, taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, bazaars, student-initiated activities and much more.

Children enjoyed face painting, bouncy castles, games and crafts. They even were able to see what it was like to ride in a firetruck! For those that required extra care, our day care service was superb. Thank you!

Everyone enjoyed the scrumptious food on offer from many countries around the world.

Of course, the final highlight event was out Giant Raffle. There was plenty of cheering and equal tension in the crowd, as the prize winners were announced one by one. Thank you to all of our prize donors for their supreme generosity!

The real heroes of the day were all of our mighty volunteers from parents to staff to students and outside supporters. Without you such an event could never happen.

Finally, I must thank our incredible PTA Wolfpack led by the incomparable Naoko Kurata. The organization of the International Festival was simply outstanding. The preparations, actual event, and subsequent cleanup were all exceptional.

Thank you to the entire HIS community for your wonderful support!

Announcement from the Crane Club

An HIS graduate and a former vice president of The Thousand Crane Club, and current Waseda student, Erin Hirakawa recently wrote an article about The Thousand Crane Club. The Crane Club members, Alina, Taishi, Jundai, and Shiori, and the club adviser Yanagi Sensei were interviewed for this article. This was part of Erin’s internship at Jstories, a multilingual news company. Please take a look at the article she wrote about our club. It is also a great opportunity to learn more about the Crane Club. The article is available in both Japanese and English. Thank you Erin for keeping HIS in your thoughts! Please enjoy reading it.

Message from the PTA

THANK YOU. Thank you to everyone who attended, who helped their kids with a class activity, who donated, who helped set up, take down, baked, cooked, and everyone who volunteered. The 2024 Festival was a success due to all the students, staff and parents who helped. It looked like  a lot of people came to the event and they were all happy. We greatly appreciate your help.

Monday morning we will finish cleaning up. If you have a few minutes to spare to help us put things away, organize the kitchen and storage it would be appreciated. We will meet in the genkan at 9. Please pick up any items that you brought in for the festival tomorrow, thank you for telling us borrow them!
