The Crane, 9 June 2024

Welcome from James Steward

Dear HIS Community,

By the time you read this CRANE, HIS IDOL will probably be occurring. We wish all of the performers good luck! Thank you to Nami-san and Mr B for spearheading this exciting initiative.

Friday evening, we took all of our Grade 12 graduates out for sushi. It was a great event enjoyed by students and their respective teachers. There was one table in particular that piled up an incredible amount of sushi plates. Please see the CRANE Photo Gallery for the real evidence!

Thank you to Junko sensei, Yoko sensei and Ms Nina for hosting a superb Japanese History Museum on Friday. The students did a wonderful job explaining the objects they created and displayed and how they impacted Japan’s history.

The ECKG Assembly was also a wonderful event. Congratulations to Masayo-sensei and her little ones for entertaining everyone on Friday afternoon.

Thank you also to Dr Kikkawa (Subaru’s dad) for speaking to Grade 5 about what to expect as students experience puberty. The presentation was excellent.

We were also fortunate to host Waseda University on Wednesday. Our students and parents were informed about the excellent programs offered at this renowned Japanese university. Thank you, Mrs K, for organizing.

Please continue to update Sayaka Hirata in our Admissions Office about your plans. We want to ensure that we support you in every possible way. If you have not yet signed the updated Financial Regulations, please send these to Sayaka and the HIS Office as soon as possible.

Please read further for more information.

Remembrance for Yusuke Hiraga

Dear HIS Community,

In remembrance of our dear classmate Yusuke Hiraga (class of 2020), who tragically left us one and a half years ago, we are coming together at HIS on Monday, June 17 at 12:30 pm to pay tribute to his life and friendship. Please note the date change. Everyone is welcome.

We plan to hold a ceremony to plant a tree sapling and dedicate a bench in his honour next to the new Annex at HIS. We hope that this sapling will grow into a healthy tree and the bench will be used by future generations of HIS students. There will be light refreshments following the dedication.

We warmly invite you to join us in paying tribute to Yusuke’s memory. Specific details regarding the time and day will be finalised closer to the date.

We also kindly ask for donations to contribute to the cost, estimated at 70,000 yen, for the bench and plaque.  We request donations to be sent to the following bank account

Name: Lisa Shige

Type of account: Normal

Account number: 2520456

Bank: 中国銀行 (Chugoku Bank)

Branch: 広島西支店 (322)

All the best,

Classes of 2020 and 2019
