Principal's Message Dear HIS Community As we have just completed our 14th day of distance learning I would like to thank our HIS community for your continued support. We are continuing with the distance learning model next week in order to align our start with the public and private schools in Hiroshima Prefecture. We are maintaining close contact with the Prefecture and also with the Japan Council of International Schools (JCIS) to inform decisions. Below you will find a list of guidelines for our return to regular schooling and I would like to express my gratitude to both Hiroshima Prefecture and JCIS for sharing their ideas which have helped us to form these guidelines in preparation for our return to regular school. Principal's Message Dear HIS Community I hope you have had a good week with your children at home. We miss you all, although we have enjoyed seeing many of you via Zoom. It has been great having our Grade 12 class at school this week. They have been very careful with their handwashing etc and social distancing, so I would like to thank the Gr12 class for being great role models. Our current plan is to bring Grade 11 back next week (23rd-27th March) and aim for a full school start on Monday 30th March. Thank You, Parents: Thank you again for all the support during this second week of distance learning. I had to check the calendar. It has only been 9 school days so far but strangely feels…

Items: Primary Literacy Week; HIS Photography Exhibition HIS Social Media - Instagram; MYP Assessment Presentation; Student teachers; PTA Festival Update. Principal's Message Dear HIS Community Congratulations to our Grade 10 students who are presenting their MYP Personal Projects tonight. The Personal Project is the culminating task of the Middle Years Program and involves the students undertaking a significant inquiry into an area of interest, using all of the skills that they have been developing through the MYP. The next step for the Grade 10s is the Diploma Program which is exciting. Congratulations to you all. During the MYP Assessment workshop this week for parents there was some discussion of assessment in Mathematics so I thought that this TED talk may be interesting in the way Mathematics is presented in a…

Items: Young Americans Update HIS Festival Update Japanese Language Workshop MYP Assessment Workshop for Parents Principal's Message Dear HIS Community We have had a fun week with a continuation of the secondary intramural basketball games which have turned out to be lots of fun. See the Crane video for some images. We have also noticed many of our primary students practicing volleyball at lunchtimes, perhaps inspired by our varsity teams. This is a good reminder of the impact of our actions on the younger students. Our Secondary students are great role models. In this week's TED Talk, I like the idea of confidence as a must-have rather than a nice-to-have. I hope you enjoy the talk by a teacher and activist, Brittany Packnett. Enjoy the weekend. Kind regards Damian Rentoule  Crane…

We really appreciate your involvement in school life at HIS and this makes a big impact on your child when they see that you are a part of their school life, in whatever form that takes.  Thank you. Items: HIS Festival - Save the Date; Koto Performance on Friday; HIS Mission - One more language. Principal's Message Dear HIS Community I hope you have enjoyed the week. Thank you to everyone involved in the Korean Culture Day. It was a great event focusing on some forms of play that are popular in Korea. Aside from being lots of fun, we all expanded our repertoire of games and one thing we definitely need as much as more reading (& we need this) is more play. Related to this idea of play, the following TED talk makes a great case for the link between attributes of play and science. Also, I would like to thank Jackie and Yasuko for volunteering to help with the Festival this year. We are all…
